MMM14, Days 1-3

And then it started.

Day 1
Thursday the 1st of May was a beautiful Autumn day here in Sydney, and I wore a new dress that I hadn't yet blogged but that I'd been showing glimpses of on Instagram (you can find me at @gabriellecorb).  It's currently my favourite make, really because the fabric is so amazing, and even though I shouldn't have put the lightest colours on my tummy...

I snapped some outfit photos from the balcony at my old building after a meeting - such glorious blue skies! And because I haven't yet blogged this dress, here are the front AND back views:

Photos by me, with camera attached to a balcony railing, on continuous burst setting with a 10 second timer.

Day 2
Fridays are casual days at my workplace, so I wore my denim Moss Mini skirt. This is currently the only me-made skirt that feels like it fits reasonably well - everything else is too loose - but I can't wear denim to work most days. I'm hoping the daily outfit pics this month will help me work out which skirts / pants look too loose.

The weather was still lovely so at lunchtime I wandered down to the MCA down near Circular Quay to look for a gift for someone. (I found it, but I can't blog it in case they read this post!) And instead of taking a picture with the Opera House behind me, I found this awesome mural to be my backdrop! I know you can't really see skirt details, but if you want to read about this make and see skirt details you can have a look at my original post here.

Photos by me, with camera attached to the other hand rail for these stairs, on continuous burst setting with a 10 second timer. Big smiles represent nervous laughter in front of tourists.

Day 3
Last night a cold change swept through with rain and wind and mostly grey skies, and our heater got turned on for the first time this year.  My day started off pretty lazily at home, and then later on my daughter and I braved the cold to go to her netball game.

I made and wore this long-sleeved merino top last May (see MMM13 posts here and here) from 3 coordinating colours of merino knit. I didn't properly blog it till here, last July! The pants are an old pair which I've had to darn on the backside but I love the colour and they seem to fit (hmmm, recurring theme?).

Silly photo by me, with camera on tripod, on continuous burst setting with a 10 second timer.

When we went out later I popped on my Donna Karan for Vogue unlined grey wool jacket - although I whinge about the cold, an unlined wool coat was plenty today.

Photos by me, with camera (1) on tripod then (2) on a tree stump, on continuous burst setting with a 10 second timer.

And the tally so far is 4 me mades in 3 days. I'm aiming to wear 10 me mades each 7 days in May, which shouldn't be too hard if I keep my jacket on!

I'd better upload a couple of these photos to the Me-Made-May 2014 Flickr pool now - and then I'm going to get back to refashioning this (wow - not good photos!) big old cardigan in to something I might actually want to wear!

See you soon

Love your photos. Very clever way to take photos in busy places without looking to obvious.

  4. Love your Day 1 dress, it's like wearing art. The fabric is nothing but awesome, and you made the perfect dress for it.
You are so brave to take the Day 2 pictures! I don't even have the guts to do mirror selfies in public washrooms. I must say that your photos are fabulous for self timer tripod photos, you look like a model in the Day 3 sofa photo. Love the bright blues in that outfit and you picked up the coral in a scarf. I really need to learn how to do this colour thing. I tend to go monotone in my outfits, I have absolutely no ability to mix and match colour.

  5. Thanks for the nice comment that you left on my blog! All 3 outfits are great, you have so many nice me-mades. The first dress is just amazing, the fabric is so unique. I also really love the green top paired with the denim skirt. Also think that you are very brave for taking pictures in public with a tripod. I'm only courageous enough to do this on my balcony and I really need a camera with continuous burst. Your pictures look like somebody took them of you.

Great week! I adore the first dress. The fabric is divine, I can see why it is a favorite of yours.

  7. I love the dress, and all the other outfits, to be honest. :)

Thank you Melanie, I'm sure I'll be plumbing the depths of taste later in the month :). Unfortunately that's no longer my lovely view - the techie teams got banished to a very ugly little dump of a building over a year ago :(. But I still go there and enjoy the view when I can.

Thank you Sharon, I'll make no promise to stick to any kind of standard though :)

Thank you Jean! Using a little gorillapod instead of a tripod seems to make the photo-taking a lot less of a statement - and going to touristy areas also helps as you just blend in with all the snappers!

Thanks Erin, the fabric (day 1) really is special!
The day 2 photos weren't too hard because I was in a touristy area, so I'm sure everyone would have assumed I was just being a crazy tourist taking photos :).
Day 3 - thank you, it must be a magic sofa if it makes me look that good! The sofa gets the best light in my house though, so it's probably the spot where everyone looks their best. Interestingly I think you are very skilful at mixing subtle colours, so there you go - those colours are impossible for me to match!

Thank you! I know, that fabric is amazing - I bought it on a whim, and then for ages I just couldn't think what to make it into! I haven't really needed to be too brave yet - the day 2 photos were in a tourist area, so I could just pretend I was a tourist taking a picture of myself in front of an artwork :). The continuous burst function is so useful - I often look terrible in photos, but if I take a couple of sets of these bursts of photos I can usually find a few of myself looking OK - and otherwise taking photos 1 at a time and checking if they're OK is so boring.

  15. I love your new dress, and how cool is that photo with the geometric fabric echoed by the construction in the view!

  16. You've done so well with your timer shots! Some great outfits, love the blue in your 'repose' shot and of course the fabric in your flowers dress and buidlings dress is just superb!

  17. Thank you, I don't know that I even saw that echo subconsciously when I was setting up the picture, but I like it :)

  18. Thanks Kirsty, the timer works really well so long as there's time to do a few takes - I've certainly deleted a lot of very dodgy pics. It's a great blue isn't it, bit of a favorite colour of mine! The flowers and buildings fabrics are ott aren't they!
