New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year, and here's to an amazing 2014!

Thank you to all of you lovely readers, commenters, Sydney sewists and fellow online sewcialists for all the inspiration and encouragement you've provided me with this year.  I hope 2014 is a happy, healthy and fulfiling year for you all.

Here's a little gif from photos I took of the early fireworks (9pm edition) last night in Sydney, viewed from a large rock in the bush (!) on one of the harbour headlands.  I hope it works - I've never tried this before!

Onto the new year's resolutions. I have three resolutions relating to sewing and blogging - well, not so much resolutions as reminders - for the year:

1. It's a blog, not a popularity contest
This blog is just for fun. I don't have to try to be more amusing or knowledgeable or pretty or prolific. Abslutely no pressure.

2. Dance to the beat of your own drum
I don't have to join in with the sew-alongs, I don't have to try all the indies. It's OK to like Vogue patterns too (it's true, I do).

3. Be nice
Do unto others etc etc. That includes taking time to reply to comments, and to write comments on all of my the blog posts I've 'liked' in bloglovin'.

And that's it!

See you soon

- Gabrielle x

    1. Phew, glad to hear it worked! Though apparently the 9pm fireworks were nowhere near as good as the ones at midnight, so I'm not portraying the Sydney fireworks very well...

  2. Thanks for the gif. I enjoy your sewing so I hope you still share your sewing whenever you sew.
    Happy New Year!

    1. It's a bit lame, I know, but exciting to be able to make one of these things! I enjoy your sewing too and I have no plans to stop sharing my sewing. The pressing need at the moment is to get back on top of commenting on everyone's blogs!

  3. Happy new year. Great gif! Worked perfectly. I like your resolutions. I think one of my goals is to sew more Vogue!

    1. Happy new year to you too! Well the thing about the Vogues is that even though the sizing is unexpected, it's consistent - and then there's such a variety of current and old patterns to choose from... anyway I hope you have a fun foray into Vogue-land. Let me know if you need to know my size vs measurements to get an idea of your size.

  6. Happy New Year!!! Gabrielle, your reminders-resolutions are spot-on! I´m a bit of a lone wolf in many respects but when it comes to sewing it stresses me a lot not to join every sew-along, sewing challenge etc. Vogue? I just bought three patterns :D (Kirsty´s fault, with her cute little hats..)

    1. Thanks Merche, my reminders are so small but should be achievable at least and stress-free :). Though I admire everyone who has grander plans for the year! Look forward to seeing your latest Vogues sewn up!

  7. Happy New Year Gabrielle! and all the best for a fantastic 2014! I really loved those resolutions/reminders; very good timing! Only sew or make what YOU want to, I could not agree more :) I loved the gif too. I haven't a clue how to do technical cleverness like that!

    1. Thank you Carolyn, very glad to heat you're in agreement! I could have raved on a bit more about those very simple sounding reminders but I figured people would either be nodding or moving on to the next blog's end-of-year roundup post. The gif was surprisingly easy to make - and you can add music too!

  10. Perfect resolutions/reminders Gabrielle! Could not agree more. I always beat myself up for not joining in with sewalongs or other group quests, because generally they lead to more popularity and hits on the old blog. But whilst I love the community I am a part of I am not in it to be anyone else but myself. And if I joined every sewalong going I'd not be honouring myself and sewing the stuff I really wanted/needed. Look forward to many more Vogue makes in 2014!

  11. Hello Gabrielle. I have just discovered your blog from, er, I'm not sure. I clicked on a link that led to a link and oh my goodness I am lost in the interweb vortex! However I have added it to my reader so I don't miss out in future.

What I wanted to say that I am a fan of Vogue patterns as well (especially when they are $1.99 on sale online!) and have an archive, yes that is surely the correct terminology, that spans almost 30 years. I have bought a couple of indie ones because I want those brands to survive, but am yet to make them up even though I see the most fabulous versions in the blog-o-sphere. I'll just add them to the "To-Sew List".

Now I'll just continue through your blog posts :)
