Seaside Tee

Ahhhh, relax... Imagine the end of a sunny day at the beach, walking back across the beach, contemplating a trip home against the traffic... bliss!

But before we go, wasn't I going to show you something?

Yes, turn around.

There's the sea, the sand and the sky.  And a seaside t-shirt by the seashore.

This t-shirt is one I made at least a month ago, along with a couple more that are going to be ditched for just looking awful (poor fabric choices). This one's a keeper, but the fabric is very thin, so while it's a great weight for warm days in the sun, there's no hiding the tum.

The fabric is something I picked up at The Fabric Store earlier this year, and the pattern is the Kirsten Kimono tee (again, as in Day 4 of MMM - it's my go-to t-shirt pattern). I need to think about varying the size depending on the fabric - the weight and drape of the fabric makes a huge difference to how this t-shirt looks. I love how Winny wears this as a looser style, so maybe my next t-shirts will be a size or two bigger!

Easy sewing, but it just can't be jackets and frocks all the time, can it!

Speaking of frocks, I do have a few projects on the go (a stripey dress, as mentioned over at The Monthly Stitch, a loose summery dress in a lime jersey, and a blue and white stripey skirt).  If I can stick with one at a time there should be something to share with you pretty soon.

 See you anon

  1. I really love this fabric. Next time I'm in Sydney I must check out the Fabric Store... and get on board the kimono tee pattern as well.

    1. It's extremely versatile! I do have some older t-shirt patterns but the Kirsten kimono tee is a nice, modern shape - highly recommended.

  3. Great top. Love the print. I haven´t seen anything like it over here. And the pattern. Must try.
    Sea-side t-shirt by the sea shore? Is that a tonge-twister I didn´t know of?

    1. Maybe we're spoilt with our prints over here! Yes well, I was trying to make a sewing version of the famous tongue twister, well spotted :)

  4. Great shirt. I turned this fabric I to a dress and have worn it heaps. It's 'funny' to see it made I to something entirely different. I think I have some of it left I my stash and will be attempting g at shirt also. Or a singlet. Or a strapless top. If there is enough.

    1. Ooh - did you blog it? I'll have to go have a look. My piece was pretty small; I think it might have been a remnant - I just couldn't make anything larger than a t-shirt! I think this fabric would be amazing in layers or folds...

  7. I've got this fabric - think it's lovely and I keep changing my mind what to make with it. Handmade by Carolyn also made something from this fabric!

    1. It IS lovely, and even though my piece of fabric was so small that I couldn't realistically do more than a t-shirt with it, it still took me ages to cut into my fabric. I'll look forward to seeing what you make - and will have to go search on Carolyn's blog too. What popular fabric!

  11. Your Tshirt looks great! hehe, I did a double take when I saw it, because I used this exact same fabric to make an ensemble for my daughter, last Christmas!

  12. Great top! Simple projects are really nice for a bit of a break. I've been meaning to make a few quick tops for summer but I need to find some knit fabric I actually like (closest place is Spotlight -ack!).
